Below is the grade scale used at VIT, displaying the corresponding values assigned to each grade in academic evaluation.
| Grade | S | A | B | C | D | E | F |
| Points | 10 | 9 | 8 | 7 | 6 | 5 | 0 |
| Score Range | ≥90 | 80-89 | 70-79 | 60-69 | 50-59 | 40-49 | 0 |
Calculate your VIT CGPA with this direct formula based on the grade points and credit hours obtained in each subject.
Formula:
VIT CGPA = (Total Grade Points Obtained) / (Total Credits)
Whereas,
Alternate Representation:
In other terms, the formula can also be expressed as:
CGPA= ∑(GradePoints×CreditHours) / ∑CreditHours
In this alternate formula:
Here is the easy way to calculate your VIT CGPA by following this step-by-step guide.
After obtaining SGPA for each semester, proceed with the following steps:
This final outcome represents your Cumulative GPA (CGPA).
Suppose a student took three courses in a semester with the following grades and credit hours:
The Course GPA for each course is calculated by multiplying the grade point by the credit hours:
Now, let's calculate the Semester GPA (SGPA). Sum up the individual course GPAs and divide by the sum of credit hours for all courses:
SGPA = (27+32+17) / (3+4+2) = 76/9 ≈ 8.44
So, the Semester GPA for this semester is approximately 8.44.
Assuming this is the second semester and the student's first-semester SGPA was 8.2, let's calculate the CGPA.
Now, calculate the CGPA assuming Total Credit Hours for both the Semesters as 9.
CGPA = (8.2×9)+(8.44×9) / (9+9)
CGPA = (73.8+75.96)/18 ≈ 149.76 / 18 ≈ 8.32
So, the Cumulative GPA after two semesters is approximately 8.32.
As per VIT University norms, the conversion formula for Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) to percentage is as follows:
Percentage equivalent of CGPA = CGPA * 10
For example, CGPA 9.23 is considered equivalent to 92.30%.
Check out the corresponding percentage ranges for VIT CGPA values in the table below.
| VIT CGPA | Equivalent Percentage (%) |
| 10 | 100 |
| 9.0 - 9.9 | 90 - 99 |
| 8.0 - 8.9 | 80 - 89 |
| 7.0 - 7.9 | 70 - 79 |
| 6.0 - 6.9 | 60 - 69 |
| 5.0 - 5.9 | 50 - 59 |

CGPA, or Cumulative Grade Point Average, is a way to measure how well a student is doing in all their courses and semesters. It gives an overall view of academic performance.
VIT generally utilizes a common letter grade system with associated numerical point values, such as: A+ (9.5), A (9.0), B+ (8.5), B (8.0), C+ (7.5), C (7.0), D (6.0), F (0.0).
To calculate the GPA for a single course, multiply the grade point, determined by your letter grade, by the credit hours assigned to that course.
The VIT CGPA calculator operates by taking your course grades and credits as input, performing accurate computations to determine your CGPA. This eliminates the need for manual calculations.
You can find your official CGPA at VIT on the VTOP Portal. Simply log in to your account, go to the “Academics” section, and your CGPA should be prominently displayed along with other academic records such as transcripts and GPA.
A 8.5 CGPA equals 85% (8.5 × 10), per VIT's official norms. This is a strong "First Class" score, competitive for most campus placements and PG admissions.
