How to Use

How to Use These Calculators

1
Pick the right calculator
Use a generic converter (CGPA to Percentage, SGPA to CGPA) if your university is not listed separately. Use a university-specific calculator if your institution is listed, as it will apply the formula from your official grading regulation.
2
Enter your score
Input your CGPA, SGPA, or marks as shown on your academic transcript. The calculator will apply the correct formula and give you the result immediately.
3
Use your result to check study abroad eligibility
Once you have your converted score, check whether it meets the minimum GPA or percentage requirements of universities abroad. Kanan's counsellors can help you with a full eligibility assessment.

Frequently Asked Questions

CGPA is the grading system used by most Indian universities, measured on a 10-point scale. GPA, used in the US and Canada, runs on a 4.0 scale. Since the two are not directly comparable, you need a conversion when applying abroad. Our calculator uses the formula most widely accepted by international admissions offices.
It depends on your university. The most common formula is CGPA × 9.5, but many universities have their own. Anna University uses CGPA × 10, Mumbai University Engineering uses (CGPA × 7.1) + 11, and VIT and SRM have their own structures. Use the calculator that matches your institution. If yours is not listed, the generic calculator is a good starting point.
It depends on the country, university, and programme. Most US graduate programmes expect a minimum GPA of 3.0, which is roughly a CGPA of 7.5 to 8.0. UK universities typically ask for a First Class or 2:1. German universities apply the Bavarian Formula to your percentage. Convert your score here first, then speak to a Kanan counsellor to understand where you stand.
The generic calculators work for any Indian university on a 10-point CGPA or SGPA scale. For institution-specific results, we have dedicated calculators for Anna University, VIT, SRM, and Mumbai University, each applying the official grading formula. We are adding more universities regularly.
Yes, to assess your eligibility and understand your converted score. For formal submissions, visa applications, or scholarships, you will need an official transcript or verification from a service like WES or ECE. Think of these calculators as an accurate reference point, not a replacement for official documentation.
